February Update: Haiti Trip

Hello Friends and Family!

Hope you all have been well and blessed!  We praise God for your continued backing in prayer and finances and feel so humbled to be supported by each of you!   We pray a blessing over you and your family and that the Lord’s provision in your life is so evident that you can continually be giving glory back to Him. This is so true for us and we pray the same for you!  Even more important than that, know that you are storing up treasures in heaven! (Philippians 4:17)  I have to be daily asking the Lord to turn my eyes from this world to thinking in an eternal perspective.  “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”             2 Corinthians 4:18

As you know from our last update, Ethan and a group of 6 others guys were in Haiti at the very end of January.  I will share a few photos and then a link to a video capturing their time there.  Here is a trip recap from his perspective.

“This was the first time anyone from our Ride Nature team had been to Haiti. In fact, for two of the guys traveling with us, this was their first time out of the United States! We knew through the media that Haiti was still in shambles from the earthquake in 2010 but had no idea of the extent. It quickly became obvious during just the short drive from Port Au Prince to Grand Goave. With our combined 30 countries visited, we witnessed truly some of the gnarliest and dirtiest outdoor markets any of us had ever seen. Haiti is definitely still a place of much need, prayer, and support.

Once on the mission base in Grand Goave, we could feel and see the presence of witchcraft and voodoo in the neighboring hills.  Throughout the night; screams, chanting, singing, and drum circles could be heard which are clear signs of people gathering for the purpose of worshiping dark powers.

Our group experienced the joy of children in the orphanages who knew the love of Jesus amongst the darkness that controls the country.  Haiti does have a Christian influence but it is so tainted with the influence of voodoo and witchcraft.  Many people who take part in the darkness of those acts will be at church the next morning.  We experienced true Christians fulfilling the mission to take care of the widows and the orphans first hand.  The door is open, the call is clear.   Haiti is in desperate need for the unaltered gospel of Jesus.  It is our prayer that we will be sending teams to partner with organizations like Hands and Feet and Haiti Made who are spreading the good news of Salvation through our Savior Jesus Christ.”

Prayer Requests

  •  Ethan is preparing to lead a co-ed team of 8th graders from a local Christian academy to Matapalo, Costa Rica on March 3rd-10th.  While there, they will be funding and starting to build bathrooms on the Casa Vida church property and hosting a VBS to the local community.
  • In less than two months, Ethan and I will have had to be away from each other 17 days combined from 3 different trips (Surf Expo, Haiti, and Costa Rica).  On top of that, this is the first time in our marriage that we haven’t been working together throughout the week.  We have definitely grown accustomed to working side by side.  This is a new season and we know that the Lord is preparing us for the next.
  • We are daily asking the Lord for direction in our housing situation.  Our hope is to not rent and “throw away” at least $1000 a month but instead buy something small.  We are totally open to whatever the Lord has and really anything bigger than our 250 sqft RV will be an upgrade! 🙂
  • Continued prayers and praise for a healthy pregnancy!  Everyday we are amazed at the gift the Lord has blessed us with and are eagerly awaiting our little boy’s arrival at the end of May.

Again, I just want to thank you all for your interest and support in the work we are doing with Ride Nature.  As we look back over what the Lord has done and taught us in the last 10 months, we are so amazed and honored to be a part of God’s work!  I know that living in FL and traveling every month or so may sound glamorous but I’ll be honest the day to day isn’t and leading mission trips is no vacation.  This really has been a time we’ve had to rely on God and in turn we are able to give Him all the glory for what we have!

In Christ’s Love,

Ethan and Sandra

  1. I can vouch for the fact that mission trips take the “starch” out of you—literally!!! I am most proud of you in this situation. Our FUMChurch, Bentonville, AR youth are preparing their HAITI mission trip during Spring
Break—last week in March. Love, Granny
